FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method of generating laser light for measuring range comprises steps for: generating laser light in a spectral range, amplifying said laser light with an active fibre-optic amplifier and modulating gain to achieve and maintain said required characteristic. Said required characteristic is at least one of the following: laser light intensity which depends on the generated laser light, the signal-to-noise ratio of said dependant laser light and energy efficiency of said dependant laser light. Said modulation is performed through at least one of the following: pumping light intensity for said amplification, pumping light spectrum for said amplification, spectral position shift of the filter optical spectral characteristic of the optical filter for filtering said generated laser light, length of the active fibre for said amplification, and where said laser light is generated as pulsed laser light. At least a portion of said modulation is time-synchronised with said pulsed laser light.

EFFECT: high output power and high accuracy of evaluating laser light reflected from a target.
