SUBSTANCE: invention relates to compositions which irreversibly accumulate hydrogen gas and can be used, for example, to trap hydrogen released during radiolysis in radioactive waste blocks. The composition for trapping hydrogen contains: (a) a mineral compound of formula (I): MX(OH), in which M denotes a bivalent transition element; O denotes an oxygen atom; X denotes an atom selected from S, Se, Te, Po; and H denotes a hydrogen atom; and (b) is a nitrate of formula (II): ZNO3, in which Z denotes a univalent cation. The disclosed composition is used in powder form to trap hydrogen gas through direct interaction or in form of an auxiliary agent in holding material.
EFFECT: invention increases effectiveness of trapping material.
