OPTOTYPES FOR ACCURATE ASSESSMENT OF VISUAL ACUITY Russian patent published in 2012 - IPC A61B3/00

Abstract RU 2447826 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely optometry, and may be used for the accurate assessment of visual acuity for the purpose of early diagnosis of eye diseases or medical expert examination for vocational selection. Optotypes represent a pair of black-white grids with one being made of three horizontal bars, and the other one being made of three vertical bars of the equal width spaced at the same width with the bar length related to its width as 5.7:1 to 6.0:1. The presented modified optotypes can be identified only on the basis of perception of high-frequency Fourier spectrum components conforming with characteristic image frequencies.

EFFECT: optotypes provides both more accurate assessment of the visual system resolution, and more stable results as the persons being tested is stimulated to use the same identification criterion throughout the whole procedure.
