FIELD: aluminium production.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of aluminium by electrolysis from the original mineral raw materials. A method for the production of aluminium by electrolysis of aluminium chloride from a feedstock containing aluminium oxide, includes carrying out a reaction with carbon monoxide and chlorine to obtain metallic aluminium and chlorine, which is recycled to the production of aluminium chloride, while the carbon dioxide formed in this reaction is reduced to carbon monoxide, either electrochemically or using a non-carbonaceous reducing agent, after which said carbon monoxide is recycled to the production of aluminium chloride.
EFFECT: reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the production of aluminium.
