FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: sulphur is obtained via single-step oxidation of hydrogen sulphide with chlorine in gas phase with extraction of sulphur and hydrogen chloride. The mixture of hydrogen chloride and hydrogen in volume ratio 8:1 is fed for chlorination of iron (III) oxide at temperature 1000-1200°C. The iron (II) chloride formed is extracted from the gaseous mixture of reaction products and oxidised with oxygen to obtain chlorine, which is returned to the hydrogen sulphide oxidation step, and iron oxide. The obtained iron (III) oxide is returned to the chlorination step.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain sulphur from hydrogen sulphide with high specific output without using a catalyst and direct expenses on electric power.
