FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is primarily meant to determine visibility of runway orientation lights for meteorological support at an aerodrome. In the disclosed method of determining visibility range of runway lights, the minimum required brightness of lights Imin which is sufficient for detection at a distance Rmin is determined first. The brightness setting In of the lights is selected based on the condition In>Imin>In-1, where n is the index number of the brightness setting. The visibility range R of the lights at the selected brightness setting In is determined. Imin is calculated using formula where Rmin corresponds (equal) to the operating aerodrome minimum (RVR) on the visibility range on the runway, m is a safety factor and ε is the eye brightness-difference threshold. The apparatus has a computer with a measurement information preprocessing unit, a data interface for meteorological visibility range S, brightness of the ambient background E, connected to a meteorological visibility range S sensor and an ambient background E sensor, an interface for installing (switching on) runway lights with a controlled input, a program module for calculating (RVR) on a iteration algorithm and a digital display.
EFFECT: independent operation and automation of the process of obtaining data on visibility of runway lights.
