FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing adamantanol-1, which is a valuable component of lubricating oil, hydraulic and transmission fluids, as well as a starting material for production of certain drugs. The method involves reaction of adamantane with water in the medium of CCl4 and a propionic acid amide in the presence of a vanadium catalyst VO(acac)2 for 5-15 hours at 120-175°C in molar ratio [V]:[AdH]:[CCl4]:[H2O]:[CH3CH2CONH2]=l:20:100:1000:100.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain the end product with quantitative output using a simple and environmentally safe method.
