FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of adamantanol-1 representing a value component of lubricant oils, hydraulic and transmission liquids. Method involves oxidation of adamantine with methylhypobromite or hypobromous acid generated in situ from carbon tetrabromide and methanol or water in the presence of molybdenum compound of the formula Mo(CO)6 as a catalyst in case of using methylhypobromite or hypobromous acid or copper compound of the formula Cu(acac)2 in case of using methylhypobromite at temperature 100-150°C for 3-6 h in the mole ratio [Mo(CO)6 or Cu(acac)2] : [adamantine] : [CBr4] : [methanol or water] = 1:100:100:(1000-5000), respectively. Method provides decreasing cost and simplifying the process technology based on decreasing energy consumption and labor intensity.
EFFECT: improved method of synthesis.
