FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to geophysics and is meant for surveying hydrocarbon deposits both offshore the World Ocean and onshore. An electromagnetic field is excited in the investigated medium by feeding electric current into the earth using a symmetric array of two feed lines of equal length lying one after the other on a single line. Each feed line is connected to the corresponding pulsed current generator such that pulsed currents of the same value and opposite sign flow in said feed lines. Control inputs of the current generators are connected to corresponding control units configured to synchronise current pulses in the feed lines using a GPS receiver. The feed lines can be earthed using three electrodes: two on the edges of the array and one at the centre of symmetry of the array. Each of the feed lines can be earthed using a corresponding pair of electrodes. The first electrodes in the pairs lie on the edges of the array and the second electrodes lie near the centre of symmetry of the array at equal distance from it.
EFFECT: higher depth, detail and resolution, wider field of use owing to the possibility of use in conditions with non-conducting screens, while simultaneously increasing mobility and efficiency of geoelectric surveying.
