COMPENSATION METHOD FOR DIRECTED DETECTION OF RADIOACTIVE RADIATION AND APPARATUS FOR REALISING SAID METHOD Russian patent published in 2012 - IPC G01T1/29

Abstract RU 2451304 C1

FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: scintillation detectors of basic and compensation channels are fitted with a number of photodiodes capable of ensuring high detection sensitivity. For efficient collection of scintillations from the entire volume and spectral matching of photodiodes and scintillations using spectrum-shifting light guides included in the detector, said light guides are optically connected to the photodiodes. Electric signals obtained at the output of the photodiodes are summed separately for each channel and transmitted through shaping amplifiers to the input of a processor, where, taking into account the perturbing radiation component, signals from radioactive radiation arriving within the given directivity of the detector of the basic channel are picked up based on detection results in the compensation channel. The value of the perturbing radiation component is first estimated based on measurement results in the basic and compensation channels using a separate source of perturbing radioactive radiation. The ratio of readings of the basic and compensation channels characterises the compensation coefficient when aligning the directivity zone to the side with no direct or scattered radiation, for example upwards and not less than 1.5-2.0 m away from surrounding objects and surfaces.

EFFECT: high sensitivity of radiation detection.
