FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: method to produce a cathode material with the following composition: LiNi1/3Co1/3Mn1/3O2, for lithium - ion batteries includes heating of an initial mixture of nitrates of appropriate metals and a gelling agent with subsequent drying and calcinations of the powder produced after heating of the initial mixture. The gelling agent is glycine in the amount of 280-500 g per 1000 g of nonaqueous nitrates of cobalt, manganese and nickel taken at the ratio of Mn+2:Co+2:Ni+2, equal to 1:1:1; and the lithium nitrate is introduced by impregnating a powder with it produced after heating and drying of an initial mixture.

EFFECT: possibility to control size of active material particles in the required working range together with preservation of an oval shape of the particles and their normal distribution.
