METHOD OF ANTERIOR SPINAL CORD ELECTROSTIMULATION IN SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF THORACIC SPINAL-CEREBROSPINAL INJURY Russian patent published in 2012 - IPC A61N1/04 A61B17/34 A61B17/56

Abstract RU 2452528 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly neurosurgery. A method involves placing electrodes for the following anterior spinal cord electrostimulation. The electrodes are placed from an anterior transthoracic approach to an epidural space through a region of an injured spinal segment above the anterior spinal cord onto a dura mater, as lower, and higher than the injury region. It is followed by forming a power take-off channel to an external body surface to an electric signal source along an upper rib out of a pleural cavity. With regard to the injury of specific vertebrae, the channel is formed as follows. If observing one of the vertebrae Th12, L1 and both injured - within the vertebra Th11, the power is taken-off onto a posterolateral thorax. If one of the vertebrae Th6, Th7, Th8, Th9, Th10, Th11 injured within the injured vertebra, the power is taken-off onto the posterolateral thorax. The two injured adjacent vertebrae from the previous list within the superior vertebrae injured shows the power taken-off onto the posterolateral thorax. The two adjacent vertebrae Th4, Th5 or one of them injured - within the vertebra Th6, the power is taken-off to a vertebral border of scapula at its inferior corner. The power is taken-off through the formed channel. The incisional wound is closed. It is followed by electrostimulation sessions.

EFFECT: method eliminates infection ingress into the pleural cavity and liquorrhea, reduces injures of adjacent organs.
