FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: individual's blood is examined for the concentration of α-fetoprotein (AFP) and the T lymphocyte count with a transferring receptor (CD71 +). The derived data are used to calculate a prognostic index (PI) resulted from the relation of the AFP concentration in IU/l to absolute lymphocyte count CD71+B cell/l (PI=AFP/CD71). If the PI value is equal to 8.1 and more, a risk of developing obesity is predicted.
EFFECT: method is applicable to detect a risk of developing obesity in individuals following a sedentary lifestyle, and also when prescribing glucocorticoids and immunodepressive therapy, inheriting a pathology accompanied by a metabolic defect.
