FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: stereoscopic measuring system captures stereoscopic images and determines measurement information for points on the stereoscopic images set by the user. The system has a capturing device for capturing the stereoscopic image of an object. The processing system is connected to the capturing to receive stereoscopic images. The processing system displays a stereoscopic image and allows the user to select at least one point on the stereoscopic image. The processing system processes said points on the stereoscopic images to determine measurement information for said points.

EFFECT: broader functional capabilities owing to introduction of a portable capturing device which enables the user to capture a stereoscopic image of objects lying at remote places.
