SUBSTANCE: system includes a capturing device (106) for capturing the stereoscopic image of an object (104), memory (138) for storing stereoscopic images, each having a first and a second image (116, 118) of a specific object (104), a user interface module (320) for forming a first and a second stereoscopic image and receiving user input data which determine a first and a second measuring point (716, 718) on the first image (116) and measuring points along an auxiliary selection line on the second image (118). The module (324) for selecting a point determines the range of points in the second image (118) based on the first and second measuring points (716, 718) on the first image (116) in order to form auxiliary selection lines (441) on the second image (118). The stereoscopic point module (326) determines a first and a second stereoscopic point which correspond to the first and second measuring points (716, 718). The module (328) for diagonal measurement calculates the distance between the first stereoscopic point and the second stereoscopic point.

EFFECT: simple determination of identical measuring points on stereoscopic images and high measurement accuracy.
