FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: graphite or carbon electrode is used in engineering for cutting and welding of the metal. The electrode consists of left and right parts. Parts of the electrode are separated by an insulating ceramic insert. The ceramic insert consists of cryolite, particles of iron oxide (Fe2O3) and particles of the metal which is more active relative to iron, ranging in size from 0.5 to 1 mm, in the form of particles of aluminium or magnesium, or copper. The composition of the ceramic insulating insert: 40-55 parts of iron oxide (Fe2O3), 10-15 parts of powder of the metal which is more active than iron in the form of aluminium or magnesium, or copper, the rest is cryolite.
EFFECT: creation of a graphite or carbon electrode, which easily turns on a welding arc after it is turned off for technological reasons, without any additional devices like metal bridges.
