FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: meter has a laser, an optical system which forms a stable basic direction by forming a laser beam annular structure, and a measuring unit with a position-sensitive photodetector connected to a computing unit. The optical system consists of a diverging lens and an axicon with two spherical surfaces with radii R1 and R2, where The photodetector is a digital camera configured to adjust the optical signal to electric signal conversion factor. The computing unit receives signals of a selected frame and measures coordinates of the image point with maximum brightness. The highest video signal value is determined and if it lower than the maximum permissible or higher than the given value, multiple measurements are taken, followed by averaging and recalculating results with shift relative the real coordinate system associated with the analysed object. Otherwise the conversion factor of the camera is corrected to a value where the maximum signal of the camera was lower than the maximum permissible and higher than the given value.

EFFECT: simple design and high accuracy of measuring nonlinearity at distances of up to 100 m or more.
