SUBSTANCE: present group of inventions is aimed at a novel method of producing high-purity D-(-)-N, N-diethyl-2-(α-naphthoxy)propionamide, involving reaction of (L)-2-(-)-halopropionic acid with a chlorinating agent and dimethyl formamide to form (L)-2-(+)-halopropionyl chloride; reaction of that (L)-2-(+)-halopropionyl chloride with diethylamine in the presence of an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution and an organic solvent to form (L)-(+)-2-halo-N,N-diethylpropionamide; and reaction of the mass containing (L)-(+)-2-halo-N,N-diethylpropionamide with α-naphthol in the presence of an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution and an organic solvent to form D-(-)-N, N-diethyl-2-(α-naphthoxy)propionamide. Also disclosed are agrochemical compositions which exhibit herbicide properties, containing highly pure optically active D-(-)-N, N-diethyl-2-(α-naphthoxy)propionamide.
