FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is use of results of monitoring the environmental situation using a system of threshold sensors to determine coordinates of the centre of an emission cloud and mass of the toxic chemical contained therein. Parameters of the emission cloud are determined by solving the inverse problem of propagation of impurities in the atmosphere taking into account boundary conditions, which are determined using sensors lying in series on the surface of the earth at a selected fixed height above the ground. Analytical relationships are established for calculating coordinates of the centre of the cloud and mass thereof at zero time. The time instants at which three sensors respond when threshold concentration of toxic chemical is achieved in the front of the approaching cloud and time instants at the end of the response when concentration falls below the threshold value as the cloud moves away are recorded.
EFFECT: high reliability of predicting dynamics of chemical contamination of the atmospheric boundary layer at the initial phase of development of a disaster and possibility of making founded urgent decisions on protecting the public living areas near the object at which the accident has occurred.
