SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ice-technology and concerns ice cover breaking techniques for opening passage through ice field. Method for destruct ice cover is based on laser irradiation of ice cover. Stress concentration lines in ice cover are determined, laser irradiation is focused on stress concentration lines, ice on these lines is evaporated by laser irradiation, ice evaporation at depth determined by ice cover cracking is performed.

EFFECT: invention provides large dimensional vessels safe piloting, improves icebreaking capabilities of ice breakers, creates wide passages in ice fields and increases vessel piloting speed.
