FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to fibre-optic technologies, particularly optical fibre doped with tin. The optical fibre has a core essentially made from pure quartz, a concentric tin-doped transition part between the core and the cladding and a concentric depressed cladding (i.e., with a lower refraction index) which is doped with fluorine. The method of making the optical fibre involves depositing a plurality of layers of the depressed cladding along the inner surface of a tubular glass workpiece, depositing on the open surface of layers of the depressed cladding several layers of quartz doped with tin and a layer of pure quartz. The tube is pressed to form a workpiece with a solid core and the optical fibre is stretched. At least one Bragg fibre grating can be formed in the transition part of the optical fibre.
EFFECT: transition layer between the core and the cladding with low concentration gradient ensures minimal change of the refraction index, resistance to hydrogen diffusion and thermal stability of any Bragg fibre grating written in the transition part of the fibre.
