FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to refractories used for submerged ferrules used in continuous steel casting. The refractory which contains zirconium dioxide and carbon contains grains of an aggregate which is a ZrO2 aggregate, where the ZrO2 component accounts for 80-88 wt %; a carbon bond formed between grains of the aggregate and carbonaceous material, where the grains of the carbonaceous material, having length greater than 45 mcm, in the carbonaceous material makes up to 60 wt % of the total weight of the carbonaceous material except the binding carbon, where the total volume of open pores and the carbonaceous material in the structure of the refractory is in the range of 25-42 vol. %, the diameter of open pores is not more than 10 mcm or the total volume of open pores, having diameter greater than 10 mcm, is not more than 30% of the total volume of open pores in the structure of the refractory.
EFFECT: high heat-resistance and corrosion resistance of articles.
