SUBSTANCE: method of authenticating a product in a container and authenticating the container comprises steps where: (a) a first authentication means (AM1) for ensuring authenticity of the container is applied onto the container, (b) a first authentication key (AC1) is extracted from said first means (AM1) and recorded in a first database (DB1, DB1'), (c) a second authentication means (AM2), independent of said first authentication means, for ensuring authenticity of the product in the container is applied onto the container, (d) a second authentication key (AC2) is extracted from said second authentication means and recorded in a second database (DB2), separately from said first authentication key, (e) a third authentication key (AC3) for authenticating the associated pair of said product and its container is generated from a computer implemented combination of said first and second authentication keys (AC1, AC2), and (f) third authentication is recorded in a third database (DB3).
EFFECT: providing authentication of a product and its container, preventing falsification of a packed product by repacking or replacing the genuine product.
