FIELD: measuring.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to area radiation survey and search of point sources of gamma-radiation. Method of determining the location and activity of point sources of gamma radiation on the area involves performing a radiation survey of the area and searching for point sources of gamma radiation by measuring the dose rate of differential beams of gamma radiation released from the total flux using a collimating device which is rotated in horizontal and vertical planes. Values of collimator orientation angles relative to earth surface allow to determine coordinates of terrain sections, at transition to which with the next change of the collimator position, a sharp increase in the dose rate is observed due to the presence of a gamma-radiation source. Measured value of the dose rate and the established spectral composition of the direct radiation, taking into account the known distance to the source, enable to estimate its activity.

EFFECT: possibility of obtaining detailed information on the nature of radioactive contamination for each sector of the area.
