FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate lying opposite each other, and a liquid crystal layer lying between the first and second substrates. The device has a plurality of pixels, each having a transmitting region which transmits light from the side of the first substrate, and a reflecting region which reflects light from the side of the second substrate on the first substrate. A transparent layer is provided in the reflecting region in order to make the liquid crystal layer thinner in the reflecting region than in the transmitting region. A channel is formed between pixels on the surface of the first substrate facing the liquid crystal layer.
