FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: latent fingerprint detection is performed on a surface containing application of an electrical potential approximately 2.5 kV to a metal plate so that to form a differential charge density relevant to a location of a part or a complete latent fingerprint on its surface. What is used is a detector element comprising a conductive powder for selective attraction or repulsion from the surface matched with the surface of the part or the complete latent fingerprint, or selective attraction or repulsion from an area matched with the surface of the part or the complete fingerprint. A lower charge density is generated on the surface matched with the part of the latent fingerprint or the complete fingerprint; this density is less than the charge density in the area not matched with the part or the complete latent fingerprints. The detector element can comprise ceramic balls coated with the conductive powder so that a portion of the conductive powder is removed from the ceramic balls and attracted to the surface matched with the fingerprint. The conductive powder can be applied on the surface with the used of aerosol spraying with its spraying valve having an electrical charge.

EFFECT: method enables detecting the latent fingerprints on wet surfaces, or surfaces damaged by atmospheric actions or abrasion.
