FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to chemistry of organic peroxides, ketone derivatives, and specifically to a method of producing 5-hydroperoxy-3,5-dimethyl-1,2-dioxolan-3-ol of formula (I):

by reacting acetyl acetone with hydrogen peroxide, which is characterised by that the process is carried out in the presence of an acid catalyst HClO4 in the medium of an organic solvent CH3CN in molar ratio acetyl acetone: hydrogen peroxide: HClO4 of 1:2:0.02-0.04 at room temperature of (20-25°C) for 3-6 hours. This method enables to obtain only one peroxide from acetyl acetone, which, unlike mixtures of acetyl acetone peroxides, has predictable and reproducible properties as a polymerisation initiator, and can be used an individual substance in organic synthesis of structures with antiparasitic activity and can be used in polymer chemistry, medicine and pharmacology.
EFFECT: safety and technological effectiveness of the method while maintaining sufficiently high output of the end product (71-75%).
