FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: device comprises first polariser, first birefringent layer (II) (nx<ny≤nz), first quarter-wave plate, LC cell, second quarter-wave plate, second birefringent layer (II), second polariser, and, at least, one birefringent layer (III). First quarter-wave plate features axis of minimum light pass velocity in plane forming angle about 45° with absorption axis of first polariser. Second quarter-wave plate features axis of minimum light pass velocity in plane, in fact, perpendicular to minimum light pass velocity in the plane of first quarter-wave plate. Second polariser has absorption axis, in fact, perpendicular to first polariser absorption axis.

EFFECT: higher contrast in wide range of angles of vision.
