SUBSTANCE: photograph of both frontal cuts of the chuck is taken. The initial search points are located in the areas of the said frontal cuts of the chuck in images taken with the camera. Each search frame with the given sizes in the areas of both frontal cuts is located in images taken with the camera. The normal directions to the annual layers displayed in search frames are detected. Then the search frames are moved along the normals in the direction from the initial search points to the core and each path of the search frame movement is tracked. The core is detected on both frontal cuts of the chuck on the basis of data on the intersection points of the path of movement. The device for detecting the chuck core comprises cameras with the ability of photographing both frontal cuts of the chuck, the unit of setting the initial search points, the unit of tracing the path of movement, the unit of detecting the chuck core. The unit of setting the initial search points is made with the ability to locate the initial search points. The unit of tracing the path of movement is made with the ability of tracking each path of movement of the search frames with the given sizes. The unit of detecting the chuck core is made with the ability to determine the chuck core based on data on the intersection points of paths of movement calculated in the unit of tracing the path of movement.
EFFECT: improved quality and strength of veneer sheets made of chuck.
