FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: absorption spectra of toxic chemical vapour are detected in the infrared range and are identified from the maximum coefficient of correlation of the signal spectrum with reference spectra from a database. Signal scanning is carried out in an optical cap which performs heating of the induced surface, sublimation of the sorbed substance and concentration thereof in a narrow optical channel, and which also gives high temperature contrast on the observation path of the induced substance in order to increase sensitivity of the detection method.

EFFECT: heat contrast increases sensitivity of remote passive devices for chemical detection.
