FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method is based on identifying a cloud of gaseous substances from the radiation spectrum in the optical range and determining the direction of that cloud. Circular scanning of the surface layer of the atmosphere over the area of the monitored object is carried out on inclined paths using interfaced Fourier spectroradiometers. During geographic reference using satellite navigation apparatus, geographic coordinates as well as angles between the direction to the north and the direction of optical axes of the receiving systems of the spectroradiometers are determined. Detection and identification of clouds of gaseous substances are carried out based on intrinsic emission spectra thereof detected by the Fourier spectroradiometers. The obtained data are used to construct projections of axes of the fields of view of the spectroradiometers on directions in which there is response of devices on the horizontal plane and boundaries of the location of the cloud of the gaseous toxic substance are determined.
EFFECT: continuous automatic location of clouds of toxic gaseous substances without preliminary fixing of coordinates of potential emission sources and without preliminary determination of the possible component of emissions, the value and direction of wind drift.
