FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processing of leucoxene concentrates with high content of silicon. Method and apparatus for processing said concentrates based on plasma arc smelting reduction of concentrate at a temperature of 2,500-3,000 K and atmospheric pressure. Silica is then reduced to monoxide which evaporates from concentrate. Method uses particulate and gaseous carbonaceous reducing agents, total carbon content of which is 10-15 % of weight of concentrate. Apparatus comprises a plasma-arc furnace, synthetic rutile granulator, heat exchanger and filter device for collection of silica powder. Resulting synthetic rutile melt is fed to granulator, where in form of granules is directed to a collector. Hot gas from furnace containing SiO is fed to heat exchanger for cooling and then to a filter device for collecting ultrafine silica powder.
EFFECT: simplified processing of concentrate and higher efficiency due to reduction of operations.
