FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: in the method for qualitative and quantitative determination of sulphur in a sample of sedimentary rocks or oil products, wherein the following steps are carried out: heating said sample in a pyrolysis furnace in a non-oxidising atmosphere; transferring the pyrolysis residue of said sample into an oxidative furnace and continuous measurement of the amount of SO2 in effluent obtained from said oxidative heating; oxidising a portion of the streams from pyrolysis and continuous measurement of the amount of SO2 in said portion after oxidation. An apparatus to this end is also disclosed.
