FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method for chemical etching of tubes made from quartz glass relates to fibre optics, particularly the technology of producing fibre-optic guides modified by chemical vapour deposition. The invention solves the task of reducing the variation of thickness of support quartz tubes. The technical result is achieved by etching tubes in a solution of concentrated hydrofluoric acid and then washing the tubes in distilled water. During etching, the tubes are placed horizontally with the thick wall to the bottom of the reactor. Acid is poured to a level preferably equal to 1/2 of the diameter of the tube and then uniformly drained. The time of contact between the tube and the acid during draining is equal to the ratio of the value of the variation of thickness to twice the rate of etching of the quartz glass.
EFFECT: method enables to reduce variation of thickness of the tubes multifold.
