FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of making pipes from quartz glass relates to fibre optics, particularly to the technology of making exact-size pipes from quartz glass required for making fibre-optic waveguides used in communication lines, fibre-optic sensors and laser technology. The invention solves the task of improving quality of the produced support quartz tubes. The method involves external chemical vapour deposition of SiO2 particles on a revolving pipe made from quartz glass, which is obtained by depositing quartz until formation of a porous layer having thickness which is required for said structure and sintering the porous layer. Revolution of the pipe is stopped after depositing a porous layer of the required thickness. The thin wall of the pipe is directed to the flame of a primary burner and deposition of silicon dioxide particles continues for a period of time which is directly proportional to the surrounding variation in thickness of the original pipe.
EFFECT: surrounding variation in thickness of the pipe is reduced several-fold.
