FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of producing sorbent for trapping volatile types of radioactive iodine at nuclear power stations in operating and emergency conditions. Proposed method comprises impregnating silica gel, in single-stage process, with solution of silver and nickel nitrates in ammonium or with mix of solution of silver and nickel salts in ammonium. Note here that silver and nickel concentration in solutions is selected so that silver concentration in finished sorbent makes 1.0-2.0 wt % while molar ratio of Ni2+:Ag+ varies from 2:1 to 4:1. Then, drying is performed at temperature varying from room temperature to 300°C. Now, holding is performed at said temperature for four hours.

EFFECT: faster synthesis, sufficiently high properties.
