SUBSTANCE: ability of the apoE gene protein product for stimulating the apoptotic cells phagocytosis by a macrophage in the presence of a tested compound. The increased apoptotic cell phagocytosis in the presence of the test compound with respect to its absence indicates that the compound may be effective in treating a condition associated with reduced activity of endogenous ApoE. A method for preparing the compound for treating the condition associated with the apoptotic cell accumulation involves determining an ability of the ApoE polypeptide to stimulate the apoptotic cell uptake by the macrophage in the presence of the test compound that stimulates the apoptotic cell phagocytosis. The increased apoptotic cell absorption in the presence of the test compound with respect to its absence indicates that the compound is effective in treating the condition, and may be recovered. The method of treating the condition, which involves increasing ApoE expression and/or activity in said individual by introducing the ApoE polypeptide or its mimetic into specified individual.

EFFECT: use of the declared invention allows optimising the methods and agents for stimulating the phagocytosis.
