FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in inorganic chemistry. The method of producing titanium dioxide by oxidising titanium tetrachloride with oxygen in a reactor involves, at the first step, feeding gaseous titanium tetrachloride into a stream of preheated oxygen-containing gas in molar ratio of titanium tetrachloride to oxygen of not less than 1:1 and conducting a reaction in a first reaction zone of the reactor. An aerosol of titanium dioxide particles in a gaseous medium is formed. The aerosol of titanium dioxide particles in the gaseous medium then passes into the next reaction zone. At the second step, liquid titanium tetrachloride and the oxygen-containing gas are fed into said reaction zone to form an aerosol of titanium dioxide particles in a gaseous medium.
EFFECT: invention reduces power consumption during production of titanium dioxide.
