FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to glass processing and specifically to methods of obtaining and controlling diffusion properties of glass microspheres. Microspheres are mixed with a powdered alkali metal nitrate with melting point lower than the glass transition point of the glass microspheres. The amount of nitrate is selected based on the condition of excess metal ions in the nitrate with respect to the amount of metal ions contained in the microspheres and participating in ion exchange. The obtained mixture is heated to temperature higher than the melting point of the alkali metal nitrate and held at that temperature, followed by cooling and removal of the nitrate.
EFFECT: altering diffusion properties of glass microspheres by ion exchange.
