FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: proposed alloy comprises the following components in wt %: 0.48 - 0.52 of carbon, 0.15 - 1.00 of manganese, 0.15 - 0.45 of silicon, 0.95 - 1.70 of chromium, 3.30 - 4.30 of nickel, 0.35 - 0.65 of molybdenum, 0.0008 - 0.0030 of boron, 0.001 - 0.015 of cerium, 0.001 - 0.015 of lanthanum, not over 0.002 of sulfur, not over 0.015 of phosphorus, not over 0.10 of nitrogen, iron and casual impurities making the rest. Alloy austenitising at, at least, 1500°F (815°C), hold for, at least, 30 minutes and cooling predefine its use for making armor elements.
EFFECT: hardness exceeding 550 HB, higher strength and resistance.
