FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of optical fibre. The apparatus for producing optical fibre includes a heating furnace in which optical fibre is formed by drawing when melting an optical fibre workpiece; a sealing device provided at the open part lying at the inlet of the heating furnace; a first pipe which is connected to the heating furnace and provides inlet of gas into the heating furnace; a second pipe which is connected to the lowest chamber which is closest to the heating furnace and provides inlet of gas into the lowest chamber. The apparatus also has a gas flow control device which controls overall flow of gas fed from the first pipe into the heating furnace and flow of gas fed from the second pipe into the lowest chamber such that it is essentially constant. The method of producing optical fibre involves making a workpiece having an inoculating part with a necked part, feeding an inert gas into the furnace and the sealing device and drawing the fibre.
EFFECT: preventing penetration of outside air into the furnace and high quality of optical fibre.
