FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method enables most reactor shutdowns based on emergency protection signals to switch to preliminary protection or rapid deep controlled power reduction mode, which while maintaining the safety level reduces the probability of economic losses, especially in case of false triggering of emergency protection. The method of controlling a nuclear reactor involves controlling power, including reduction thereof to a power reduction preset value. The controlled parameter is varied based on the signal for deviation of the controlled parameter from the given value and depending on the operating mode of the nuclear reactor. A subcriticality preset value and a preset value for change in the subcriticality preset value are entered; reactivity is calculated; a signal for deviation of the calculated reactivity from the subcriticality preset value and deviation of the measured power from the reduction preset value is generated. The automatic controller is switched from control based on the signal for deviation of the controlled parameter from its given value and switched to control based on the signal for deviation of the calculated reactivity from the subcriticality preset value. When power drops to the preset value of the change in the subcriticality preset value, the subcriticality preset value is changed. The automatic controller is switched from control based on the signal for deviation of the calculated reactivity from the subcriticality preset value and switched to control based on deviation of the measured power from the power reduction preset value. The power preset value is changed to zero based on the signal for change in the subcriticality preset value.
EFFECT: fast power reduction.
