SUBSTANCE: method is realised by increasing the degree of separation of aspect views of a three-dimensional scene and by increasing speed of operation of the device, which is provided by using in the active parallax barrier of the device at least one pair of birefringent layers of the working substance with complementary optical properties, particularly two liquid crystal layers with mutually orthogonal directions of initial homogeneous orientation of nematic liquid crystal molecules. Increase in the degree of separation of aspect views results from increase in contrast of modulation of light intensity by the active parallax barrier due to mutual compensation of the initial birefringence and chromatic dispersion of liquid crystal layers. Increase in speed of operation of the device when realising the method of controlling the active parallax barrier results from that the transit time of switching images of aspect views is only defined by the short reaction time of the liquid crystal layers to the application of a high control voltage.
EFFECT: improved quality of stereoscopic images.
