SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a vacuum degassing apparatus, an apparatus and a method of making glass articles. The vacuum degassing apparatus has a vacuum degassing chamber, an ascending pipe and a descending pipe, both connected to the vacuum degassing chamber. The vacuum degassing chamber has a wide portion for creating a channel for molten glass, and in the wide portion the ratio W₁/L₁ of the width W₁ of the channel for molten glass to the length L₁ of the channel for molten glass is at least 0.2; in the vacuum degassing chamber, the width W₂ of the channel for molten glass in the portion connected to the ascending pipe and the width W₃ of the channel for molten glass in the portion connected to the descending pipe are less than the width W₁ of the channel for molten glass in the wide portion. The position of the bottom of the channel for molten glass in the portion connected to the ascending pipe, and the position of the bottom of the channel for molten glass in the portion connected to the descending pipe is lower than the position of the bottom of the channel for molten glass in the wide portion.
