FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises the following steps: 1A) synthesis of 3-hydroxyisobutyric acid by contacting a bacterial cell which has increased activity, compared with its wild type, of enzymes methylmalonyl-coenzyme A mutase or 3-hydroxy isobutyrate dehydrogenase with a nutrient medium comprising glucose-containing sugar as a carbon source, under conditions in which from the carbon source through methylmalonic half aldehyde 3-hydroxyisobutyric acid is formed, if necessary, separating the resulting 3-hydroxyisobutyric acid from the nutrient medium and, if necessary, neutralisation of 3-hydroxyisobutyric acid; 1B) dehydration of 3-hydroxyisobutyric acid to form methacrylic acid and, if necessary, esterification of methacrylic acid.
EFFECT: invention enables to simplify the method of preparing methacrylic acid or methacrylic acid esters.
