FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: genetically modified microorganism for butadiene production is provided which is a bacterium, yeast, filamentous fungi, protozoa or algae and which contains one or more polynucleotides encoding enzymes in the metabolic pathway catalyzing the conversion of a fermentable carbon source to crotonyl-CoA and one or more polynucleotides encoding enzymes in the metabolic pathway that catalyze the conversion of crotonyl-CoA to butadiene, wherein these enzymes are either crotonyl-CoA reductase (bifunctional (E.C.1.1.1) and dehydratase of crotonyl alcohol (E.C.4.2.1, 4.2.1.127), or crotonol aldehyde dehydrogenase (E.C.1.2.1), crotonyl alcohol dehydrogenase (E.C.1.1.1, 1.1.1.1) and dehydratase of crotonyl alcohol (E.C.4.2.1, 4.2.1.127). A method for butadiene production from a fermentable carbon source by contacting it with the said microorganism is presented.

EFFECT: economical anaerobic enzymatic preparation of butadiene.
