SUBSTANCE: method includes steps of: receiving a bandwidth reservation request to reserve bandwidth on a limited channel, wherein the bandwidth reservation request includes a reservation start time; obtaining any existing bandwidth reservations for bandwidth on the limited channel at least partly overlapped by duration of the reservation request, wherein the duration is limited by the reservation start time; determining whether the bandwidth limit has been exceeded by the a of bandwidth reservation requests and any existing bandwidth reservations at any time which is overlapped by the bandwidth reservation request; when it is determined that the set is below the bandwidth limit, an agreement is processed by sending a reservation agreement response and storing the reservation which corresponds to the bandwidth reservation; and when it is determined that the set exceeds the bandwidth limit, a refusal is processed by sending a reservation refusal response.
EFFECT: allocating improved bandwidth and reducing the risk of overloading in a digital video network.
