SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, and aims at reducing an abdominal girth in an individual. The bacteria of genus the Bifidobacterium are used. A minimum dose is 1×109 CFU a day. Preferentially, the bacteria represent the bacteria of the genus Bifidobacterium animaiis deposed under Nos. CNCM I-2494. The abdominal girth is measured using abdominal inductance plethysmography. The method may be used for treating irritable bowel syndrome.
EFFECT: method enables reducing the abdominal girth, and relieving pain and discomfort caused by an increase thereof.
