FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to woodwork, particularly, to dressing of logs. Proposed method comprises sorting the log diameter grading, barking, log size scanning, selection of length dressing pattern, location and length dressing with allowance for quality of faces. In scanning log end faces are filmed. Then computer is used to process filmed image to simulate arrangement of annual rings to construct a 3D model. Then, lateral length cut is performed to form exposed faces of cutting plane. Then, one of exposed faces of cutting plane are filmed to process the image by computer to define the lines of annual rings at cutting plane exposed face. Note here that simultaneously computer is used to simulate lateral length cut identical to actual one at round log 3D model to obtain the image of annual rings on appropriate virtual exposed face of cutting plate. Then the computer is sued to estimate alignment of annual rings on cutting plane virtual exposed face and actual one. Now, 3D model is corrected and round log position is refined before next dressing length cut.
EFFECT: increased yield, decreased wastes.
