FIELD: wood-working industry.

SUBSTANCE: method comprising videorecording of end of the round timber, receiving images and converting them into digital equivalent, computer processing of the images by colour highlighting of the end and obtaining the reconstructed round timber model according to the invention, at the stage of the videorecording of the ends the round timber is rotated about its longitudinal axis with discrete angular displacement. The array of video images of the ends is formed which is received by successive videorecording of end of the round timber located in a static position, after another rotation by a predetermined angle, then the resulting images of the end are processed in the computer and the lines of annual rings in the plane of the round timber end are determined, then the surfaces of annual rings in the volume of the round timber is modeled by displacement of the generant on the preliminarily identified lines of the annual rings, the transparent volume geometrical model of round timber is observed with displaying of surfaces of the annual rings, and the reconstructive displaying of the annual rings on the sections of round timber is formed by constructing in the volume of the modeled round timber of the cutting plane simulating the cutting plane onto which the surfaces of the lines are projected which are formed by cutting of the reconstructed layers.

EFFECT: increased efficiency and information value of the study of the timber.
